The Manta Series brings Osprey's Hydraulics solutions to a multisport pack. Utilizing our Hydralock system, these packs offer great features for adventure oriented pursuits. Osprey carry and torso-specific fit help you focus on the adventure and not what's on your back. Special features include top zippered pocket, helmet attachment daisy, front stretch woven pocket, stretch woven pockets with InsideOut compression, upper side compression straps, integrated rain cover, ventilative mesh backpanel, Stow-on-the-Go trekking pole attachment, zippered fabric hipbelt pocket, safety blinker patch, full elastic stretch sternum strap, megnetic sternum buckle, and 3 liter reservoir included. BioStretch Harness offers a built-in magnet for quick bite valve attachment. AirScape suspension has the ridge molded foam with air chimney that creates a lightweight, yet supportive and ventilated backpanel, stretch sternum strap with magnetic hose attachment, and lightweight webbing. The BioStretch built-in hipbelt offers a mesh covered, perforated hip belt and a modified straight ErgoPull hipbelt closure.

And carried on the plane both ways from the east coast. During the hike, it was 75 deg. out and my back stayed cool due to the ventilation design. It has many well designed pockets, 2 hip pockets, and a built in rain cover. The pack is light weight and stayed in place while hiking, and scaling boulders and rocks. I have the Storm Gray, which is green. The hydrating pack worked well, since I did not have the compression straps real tight, I did not have the pressure flow I read about on the Osprey web site. I didn't know you needed to do this until I returned from my trip. Still, it worked well and I really like the magnet that keeps the bite value in place. My torsos is between 18.75 - 19.75" depending exactly how I stand, which is halfway between the S/M and a M/L sizes. When calling Osprey they recommend the S/M. The S/M fit two tight on me (felt a little short and the S/M is a 22 LTR), I exchanged it for... It has so far performed better than I'd hoped. The storm gray (actually storm green)color looks great. The pack is very comfortable, even with the reservoir fully filled with 3 L of water and all the compartments stuffed. The longest hike I've used it on so far was 7 miles but there were a lot of up-and-down stretches. There was no water sloshing, the hipbelt and chest strap were comfortable (though there were a few short moments when I felt more padding in the shoulder straps would be an improvement). The hydration tube across my chest worked out okay with a small camera hung around my neck, though my large DSLR might have caused some problems. The hipbelt pockets were easily accessible - compared to a larger pack I own - and the centered daisy chain and other straps allowed hat, dog water bowl, etc. to be hung off the pack for easy access but... It makes carrying 3 liters of water and a full sized DSLR with zoom lens and hiking gear effortless (I am a weakling). Everything else feels like a cinder block with straps in comparison. I don't often feel compelled to write reviews (I have only written one before, and the product was not great), but this pack deserves praise. I cannot recommend it strongly enough. Also, I contacted Osprey customer service, about purchasing an additional strap for the pack, and they responded immediately and were very helpful. I wish I had more than two thumbs to put up (not a whole additional arm though, it would make shirt shopping impossible) (also the backpack would not be as comfortable). |
